About jellobrain

jellobrain is about making your work easier and more effective.

People are meant to be creative. Computers were invented to do the boring work. Is the software you are using simplifying your work, or complicating it?

Mapping your information flows [1] can make a huge difference in making those relationships more apparent and discovering ways to maximize the effectiveness of an organization.

A central component of that mapping focuses on information systems, because that is what most organizations manage: information. If your information systems are not set up to properly support different stakeholders in your organization, you will be less effective and less able to do the work that you are wanting to do.

Three ways jellobrain can help.

1. jellobrain's broad scope and knowledge of systems.

  • Information Systems [2]: information technologies + systems integration
  • Databases [3]: database design, configuration, implementation + reporting
  • Websites [4]: web technologies + design, computer + web programming
  • Design [5]: prototype, publications + website design + implementation
  • Prototyping [6]: mechanical processes involved in machine construction, product prototyping, building + furniture design + construction
  • and lastly, the art of research and learning. [7]

2. Wide network of collaborators.

Having a broad community of collaborators is integral to consistently getting work done on time and on budget.

3. Prioritizing creative and systemic thought.

Creativity, both in approaching problem solving, and in creating elegant solutions is a standard expectation with regards to design work. What takes jellobrain a step further is the attention to the entire system, and generating solutions that integrate existing resources and infrastructure.

  • Graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design: Industrial Design
  • Luthier + Furniture Builder for 10 years
  • 8 years of experience with Data + Information Systems with an emphasis on small businesses and non-profit organizations.
  • 15 years experience as a freelance artist and designer.

I have always had an interest in knowing how things work.

Towards that end, I have studied database and information systems design, non-profit and business infrastructure design and development, publications and web design, musical instrument and furniture design and construction, ecological wastewater treatment systems design, automobile and bicycle mechanics and power tool repair.

While the different fields represented are diverse, there is an underlying thread that ties them together. They each involve, in their own way, an understanding and reading of systems, and a subsequent deconstruction, diagnostics, and reformulation of those systems so that they better serve their purpose.

These pursuits also point to a consummate interest and need
to learn new things. Gathering knowledge and information from a variety of sources, digesting and using this knowledge towards the needs of a project, and in turn transferring that information to different stakeholders in a way that is easy for them to understand and digest are all skills that are central to my ability to add value to a project.
